The world is changing and organisations have had to rapidly switch to digital learning. There has been a surge in the purchasing of platforms and elearning content libraries. But no matter how feature-rich the platform and engaging the content you buy (spoiler alert) it’s a step in the right direction, not the final destination.
Most organisations can typically cover 60-70% of their learning needs in this way, but what about the rest? These tend to be the more critical, high-priority, high-impact learning projects - the ones that need more than a slick bit of content on a nice platform. L&D departments now need to step up and rapidly transform their own capabilities, fully embrace digital and blended learning and support the wider transformation of their organisations. But that’s a tough ask.
We’ve been helping L&D depts at various stages of the journey digitally transform for over a decade and have a proven track record with world-leading broadcasters, universities and pharma companies. As in all we do, we take a considered, human centred approach to bring about the transformation. When an L&D department fully transforms this ripples out across the organisation as a catalyst for wider change. It evolves stakeholder and learner attitudes to learning, builds a learning culture and makes organisations more agile; better able to adapt for the future, whatever that holds.
We partnered with BBC Academy to create a comprehensive programme to train their trainers on Next Generation Blended Learning and ultimately transform the learning culture at the BBC.
After years of trying to a more blended approach, they have now succeeded. For the trainers, their journey through the programme demystified blended learning and they are now full of enthusiasm and ideas. The language has changed. They are fired up by the opportunities that blended learning presents to them. They are learning new skills and are embracing new ways of working. Becoming Blended has given them a safe space to learn, develop, share successes and pitfalls. It has both inspired and motivated them to make a significant cultural step change.
"The impact of Becoming Blended has far exceeded our expectations and the BBC Academy is now actively embracing blended learning. Before Becoming Blended, whilst there were some good examples, we now have trainers right across the Academy thinking differently about their content"
